FEMA ISP Courses

We have assembled a list of recommended training for NEOMRC Members. These training courses are available from Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA). Their website is http://www.fema.gov

FEMA offers their courses on an independent study basis and you will be awarded CEUs upon completion.

FEMA’s Independent Study Program has a home page of: http://www.training.fema.gov/emiweb/IS/

The list of FEMA ISP Courses can be found at: http://www.training.fema.gov/emiweb/IS/crslist.asp

For most of the FEMA ISP Courses, one can select the course from the course list and then download course materials and a final exam, which allows one to actually take the course and complete the exam offline. Then you simply log back on and take the test online, filling in the answers to complete the course. Thereafter you will receive a course completion certificate, however it takes quite a while (typically a couple of months).

Recommended courses for all NEOMRC members:

  • IS-22 – Are you ready?
  • IS-100 – Introduction to Incident Command System
  • IS-200 – Basic Incident Command System – A good follow-on to IS-100
  • IS-317 – Introduction to Community Emergency Response Teams
  • IS-700 – National Incident Management System (NIMS), An Introduction
  • IS-800 – National Response Plan (NRP), An Introduction

For parties interested in extending their knowledge, we recommend the Professional Development Series, which includes:

  • IS-230 – Principles of Emergency Management
  • IS-235 – Emergency Planning
  • IS-242 – Effective Communication
  • IS-241 – Decision Making and Problem Solving
  • IS-240 – Leadership and Influence
  • IS-244 – Developing and Managing Volunteers
  • IS-139 – Exercise Design

Upon completion of the aforementioned seven courses, one receives a special PDS completion certificate. Please forward a copy of the certificate to NEOMRC.
